Africa Week

africa1Salisbury Oxfam is having an ‘Africa Week’ to help raise funds for the Kilimanjaro Charity Climb in July 2010 by Shaula Maitland and Sophie Tadhunter. Mount Kilimanjaro stands at a mighty 19,330 ft, making it the highest point in Africa. Shaula and Sophie aim to raise £5000. through local fundraising events and sponsorship. All the money raised for Oxfam will be used in Ethiopia to aid:

  • Access to education for all Children
  • Improvement of basic health care
  • HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Access to water
  • Reducing violence towards women
  • Sustainable farming

The ‘Africa Week’ will run from Saturday 25th July – Friday 31st July 2009.

There will be events running throughout the week including:

  • Saturday 25th July – African Drummers performing in the main shop throughout the day, Fairtrade Food tasting in the Art Gallery (Oxhibitions), Local artist Rod Hague will be having an Art Workshop in the Art Gallery to run alongside his current exhibition ‘African Afternoon’
  • Wednesday 29th July – Rita’s African Art Workshop for Children. To sign up for this visit the Oxfam shop where further details will be available.
  • Friday 31st July – A talk by Mary Malpas, an Oxfam employee, on Oxfam in Africa, in the Art Gallery at 11.30am.

African Afternoon by Rod Hague – Exhibition

RH829Salisbury Oxfam’s Art Gallery, Oxhibitions, latest exhibition is Art Work by Rod Hague, entitled AFRICAN AFTERNOON.

Using brightly coloured acrylics, etchings, constructions in 3D and embroideries, the exhibition is a delight of contemporary work with an African theme.

Rod has been a full time artist since the early eighties, including working in stained glass in the early nineties. He has had work shown in many local and national exhibitions, including one-man shows, most recently at Shaftesbury Art Centre

Michelle Faifax, Oxfam Salisbury shop manager said: ‘we are absolutely delighted to be showing work by Rod. It is vibrant and different and the African theme fits in with work being done by Oxfam to end poverty and suffering there’

The exhibition will run from 10th July through until 7th August 2009, Monday – Saturday, 10.00am -4.00pm and can be found in the first floor above the Oxfam shop in Catherine Street, Salisbury.

There is free admission throughout the exhibition.

Commission on works sold goes toward Oxfam’s work overseas to end poverty and suffering.

Progression by Richard Eveleigh – Exhibition

Progression: a solo exhibition by Richard Eveleigh. 1st June – 1st July 2009.

03-winterslow-churchProgression is the second solo exhibition by Richard Eveleigh. Richard is a 26 year old Local Artist. He specialises in producing acrylic paintings that employ extreme use of perspective and atmospheric use of light. Progression is a retrospective exhibition and features work produced over the last 10 years. It charts the evolving nature of Richard’s art. During 2003-2008 Richard had a piece of work’ Winterslow Church, on display in the Alamein Suite of Salisbury City Hall. In 2008, Richard held his first solo exhibition at Oxhibitions, entitled Symtomatic, it featured 14 paintings that explored Richard’s ill health. In 2005, at the age of 22, Richard suffered a stroke, however this has not stopped him and he is currently studying towards a fine art degree.

As well as supporting Oxfam, Richard will be donating 25% of the sale price of any sales to ‘braintrust’, a charity devoted to furthering research and treatment of brain cancer.

Christopher Browne – Exhibition

dscn0944Salisbury Oxfam’s Art Gallery, Oxhibitions, latest exhibition is a selection of Etchings and Aquatints by the renowned local artist Christopher Browne.

Etchings and Aquatints give a characteristic richness to images and along with the great variety of subjects, including Landscapes, Circus People and

various animals, the exhibition is one not to miss.

Christopher Browne has been doing etchings right from the start of his artistic career. A trained Art Teacher, Christopher has had some interesting jobs including Tutor in printmaking at the Working Men’s College opposite Mornington Crescent Station, Camden Town.

‘There will be framed and unframed etchings available. All of the work is produced in small editions, but within the edition each print is different and numbered individually, so they are unique’ says Christopher.

Michelle Faifax, Oxfam Salisbury shop manager said: ‘we are delighted to be showing work by Christopher. It is vibrant and different and I am sure will prove as popular with the visiting public as it has been with us all at Salisbury Oxfam’

Take Ten Exhibition

jackie-langfeld-pylewell-looking-to-the-islandjill-bentley-ashlett-creekWe are pleased to invite you to the exhibition of Take 10, a group of 10 talented artists based in the New Forest.

Their exhibition will start on the 18th of March and will last until the 16th of April. The Group is hosting a “Meet the Artists” day on Saturday, 21st March, between 11:00 and 14:00, where you will have an opportunity to meet the artists. Drinks and light snacks will be served.

Works by Take 10 members encompass a wide variety of subjects and media, including landscape and portrait, using watercolours, oils and pastels. The artists exhibit both as a group and individually. They have exhibited throughout the south of England, including Hilliers Arboretum and most recently, Highcliff Castle in Dorset.
